BOYNE CITY — Next week the City of Boyne City will be spreading the word, raising awareness and celebrating Earth Day.
Boyne City Main Street, along with the Boyne City Farmers Market, will be hosting its inaugural Earth Day event from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on. Saturday, April 30 in Veterans Park.
“This is sponsored primarily by our farmers market. Their committee decided it would be a great way to boost local awareness for Earth Day related causes while also boosting some awareness for the market,” said Main Street director Jordan Peck.
The one-day event will feature a variety of electric vehicles, food vendors, live music by the Blissfest Music Organization and displays from different local organizations, including Consumers Energy.
The hope for the upcoming event is to get people together following the pandemic but to also raise awareness for different initiatives people can take to reduce their carbon footprint.
One initiative, as told by Peck, is to simply raise awareness about the farmers market.
“Primarily the event is centered around Earth Day but it is also to raise awareness about the market,” he said. “Buying locally from a farmers market not only supports our local farmers and economy but it reduces your carbon footprint by buying local instead of at the big box stores.”
Peck also hopes that this new event can grow and become an annual event in Boyne City.
“We hope this will gain traction moving forward and to partner with even more local organizations in years to come, including some conservancies or the watershed council,” he said.
The one-day Earth Day event is slated to take place in Boyne City’s Veterans Park from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 and Peck is excited for it to kick off and see people come out for Boyne City’s newest event.
“Seeing our community rally around an event like this is amazing and I’m excited to see everyone out and learning about Earth Day,” he said. “I think this is a great new and positive event and will be a good fit for our community for the many years to come.”
