DACC Hosting High School Drone Competition at Mary Miller Gym on Thursday – Vermilion County First

Are there any folks that love model airplanes or are especially into drones out there?  Well you might want to stop by Danville Area Community College’s Mary Miller Gymnasium about 10 AM this coming Thursday.
DACC Ag instructor Brandy Marron has been working with 4H U of I Extension on a special competition for high school students.  And Thursday’s drone competition isn’t just a chance to show their stuff.  It’s also a chance to get noticed for future jobs and/or scholarships.
AUDIO: And we came up with a drone curriculum for the high schools that a teacher could check out, and (if interested) they got the curriculum.  And they could spend two weeks with all of the drones and they could go through the curriculum; which was basics on how to fly, drone safety, and then a little bit on careers and opportunities that the students could have if this was something that interested them.
Companies interested in meeting some of these students will be setting up at Mary Miller starting around 8, with the actual drone obstacle course competition starting at 10.  Fifty students will be attending, with 25 from six different schools actually competing, and four drones will be given out as awards to the top performers
