SCBWA to host open house event to celebrate year – Sanibel-Captiva Islander

The Sanibel Captiva Business Women’s Association will host an open house-style cocktail party on May 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Captiva Civic Center, at 11550 Chapin Lane, Captiva.
It plans to celebrate its first full year as an independent nonprofit by recognizing existing SCBWA members, as well as share information about the organization for attendees interested in learning more.
The SCBWA was formed in 2020 after members of the American Business Women’s Association Sanibel Captiva Charter Chapter wanted to take a step back from the national initiatives of ABWA and focus on a more localized community approach. It is geared toward the enrichment and betterment of the lives of the women on the islands through networking, mentorship, career advancement and continuing education. Part of the initiative is an annual scholarship awarded to a local recipient in need.
The SCBWA holds monthly meetings that feature a variety of local speakers, along with after-hour networking and socializing events. It recently offered a Women in Leadership Speaker Series.
“I am thrilled that we are hosting our first open house to thank our current members and to welcome prospective new members,” President Taylor Osborne said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for us, as an organization, to be able to share our vision with the community.”
The event will feature live music.
Wine and soft drinks will be provided, plus hors d’oeuvres from the Sanibel Catering Company.
The event is free and open to the community.
For those interested in attending, pre-registration is requested at
