Donating food will be as simple as setting it by the mailbox Saturday.
Emergency Needs Task Force (ENTF) is partnering with National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) this weekend for a food drive that is part of the Stamp Out Hunger campaign, which was started 30 years ago, according to NALC’s website.
The food drive is returning after two years of being postponed due to COVID-19.
This year, people in Pulaski can donate nonperishable food goods by setting them out by their mailbox before mail delivery May 14. Your letter carrier will collect the donated items and present them to ENTF.
NALC has collected approximately 1.82 billion pounds of food for local communities since the program’s inception, according to its website.
“Letter carriers are a part of every neighborhood in the nation,” said Fredric Rolando, NALC president. “Together, we can help stamp out hunger in America.” NALC recommends a sturdy bag be used to hold the nonperishable food, which may include pasta, rice, cereal, and/or canned soup, vegetables and meat.
“All you have to do is walk out your front door; how easy is that,” said Vera Carter, ENTF board president. She is excited about this opportunity for the community to give back.
“All the donations stay in your community,” said Carter. “I really think ‘Pulaskians’ are giving people. I think we care about our neighbors and we definitely don’t mind supporting each other.”
