PITTSFIELD — International boarding students at Maine Central Institute plan to host the annual International Food Festival from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, May 15, in Parks Gym at 295 Main St.
The public is invited to sample foods from more than a dozen countries prepared by students, faculty and staff.
Since 2007, the MCI community has held the festival to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of students and faculty who come to the school from many countries and regions around the world. International students and advisors plan and prepare food offerings, feature music from their home countries, and develop promotional materials for the event. MCI’s festival is a fun way for students to give back to the local community that has welcomed them by providing a delicious family-oriented celebration for area foodies and friends of MCI.
MCI is the secondary school for the towns of Pittsfield, Burnham and Detroit. MCI enrollment includes day students from 14 Maine communities, and boarding students from six states and 18 countries. MCI offers accelerated and advanced placement courses in all subjects as well as 18 sports teams and 40 clubs and activities. The school is known for its award-winning arts programs that include visual, vocal, band, drama, and the Bossov Ballet Theatre, which is a performing company and international pre-professional ballet school with instruction by former and current members of the Moscow Ballet.
Doors open at 11 a.m. Suggested donations for admission are $3 for students, $5 for adults, $2 for children, and $15 for families.
