Newcomerstown Senior Center to host open house – Times Reporter

The Newcomerstown Senior Center located at 222 Bridge St., is inviting the community to its first open house on May 20 from 3-5 p.m.
“The fact that Newcomerstown has its own senior center is a huge community asset as it’s a wonderful opportunity for our seniors, 50+, to have a place to gather to socialize, enjoy games and activities, and share a meal,” said Janet Tedrow, manager.
Tedrow is new to the position and is eager to meet the seniors in a community that she grew up in. “I am excited to meet our seniors and to get more people engaged in our services and programs at the center. The open house is about educating the Newcomerstown community that we are here and that we are looking for new members to join the fun.”
The Newcomerstown Senior Center is affiliated with the Tuscarawas County Senior Center and receives levy funds to operate. The center is open Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.- 1:30 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m.- 1 p.m. with activities and lunches offered each day. The membership dues are a nominal fee of $5 annually and daily lunches are available for $4 and can be ordered by calling the center at 740-498-4523 the day before.
“We encourage our senior population to get out of the house and join us for lunch just to socialize and to share a laugh with others.” said Jamie L. Smith, executive director at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center. “Many of our seniors have been isolated due to the pandemic and its time for all of us to start living again. Our seniors can enjoy the center activities while meeting new people to build lasting friendships with.”
