Good times are on tap both on and off the oval at the Redwood Acres Fairgrounds this weekend. Racing fans, however, can look forward to the return of racing this Friday.
The Redwood Acres Raceway will be hosting high-octane action after a month-long absence this Friday as the Redwood Acres Fairgrounds hosts the long-awaited return of its fair to the Eureka grounds. The upcoming race day is the first held during the fair’s festivities since 2016.
After the 41-day gap in activities, racers in the late models, legends, mini stocks bombers and roadrunners divisions will be stepping on the gas to climb in the standings, while division leaders will aim to defend their place atop the standings.
After two races, Fortuna’s David Henderson leads the late models standings with 63 points, trailed by Mike Doss and Luke Hall, in second and third respectively. Arcata pilot Tyler Avilar’s 77 points key him into first place of the Legends division as Jordan Paiment and Eureka’s Maleesa Miles round out the category’s top three.
The mini stocks division features three local drivers in the top three, with a potential shake-up waiting to happen. Fortuna’s Gary Klinetobe is at the top of the table with 79 points. McKinleyville’s Brian Murell Jr. is right on the leader’s bumper in second place just two points behind. Jarret Mayo, also of McKinleyville is in third place and four points from the leader.
Perennial favorites in the bombers division Tyler Krupa and Jordan Krupa are separated by two points, in first and second respectively. The former leads the series with 80 points while the latter has 78 points.
Tanish Ratzlaff’s 53 points have the McKinleyville racer in first place, with closest challenger Dylan Ford four points away in roadrunners class action.
Fair admission will grant entry to the main grandstands for the Friday event. Race day tickets are $15 for adults and children over 13 years of age. Tickets for seniors and children under 12 are $10. Children under five years of age have free access to the races. Redwood Acres season pass holders also have free access to the fair.
