It’s that time of year.
No, not Christmas. It’s not Super Bowl Sunday or March Madness.
Instead, it’s the 11th annual Staten Island Senior Games for Autism Awareness Fundraiser and if you’ve attended the extravaganza in the past, you know it’s a day of fun for everyone involved.
This year’s event will take place Aug. 6 at Mid-Island Little League and Mid-Island Babe Ruth League in Travis beginning at 1 p.m. Gates open at noon.

Making it to Williamsport, Pa., is a great thing to have on your resume.
The event is run by The Songbird Foundation and is sponsored by JAG-ONE Physical Therapy. Songbird Charitable Foundation is dedicated to raising money for Staten Island families with financial need affected by autism, as well as assisting other organizations on Staten Island who help people with disabilities and other special needs.
“We’re so excited for another year. This is such a special event,’' said JAG-ONE Chief Quality Officer Joe Saraceno, who said other major sponsors include Met Foods, McDonalds of Staten Island, Monello Enterprises, Northwell Staten Island University Hospital and Friends of Bill Micciulli. “The support from the Staten Island community allows us to help so many people.

“Every year, a new group of high school players gets to experience the importance of giving back. It’s an amazing feeling that we love to share with everyone.”
This year’s fundraiser will benefit three Island families, including the Marks family (children Tyler, Dylan and Jacob); the Jackowitz family (son Daniel) and the Mattioli family (son Nico).
The three games include two at Mid-Island LL, including Staten Island CHSAA Senior girls vs. Staten Island PSAL Senior girls, as well as Great Kills LL Challenger team vs. Staten Island LL Challenger team (special needs).
The lone game at Mid-Island BRL, which is a stone’s throw from MILL, pits Staten Island CHSAA high school Senior boys vs. Staten Island PSAL PSAL high school Senior boys.
Other activities and attractions include: A live DJ; food trucks; great raffle prizes; a 50/50 and a fun zone for kids with games.
In addition, there’ll be two $2,500 scholarships awarded to one baseball player (the Bill Fani Jr. Memorial Scholarship) and on softball player (the Scott Salinardi Memorial Scholarship).
