St. Joe County Public Library to host Afghan cultural community event – ABC 57 News

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Through a partnership with the United Religious Community of St. Joseph County, the St. Joe County Public Library will host an Afghan cultural event at their main branch location on Saturday.
The educational event is free, open to the public and runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Those who attend will be greeted with cultural information and historical facts that honor Afghan culture as well as some of Michiana’s newest residents.
According to United Religious Community’s Executive Director, John Pinter, his organization resettled 36 Afghans in St. Joseph County over the past several months.
“The library offered to host an event to introduce their rich Afghan culture to the wider Michiana community. We were delighted to accept,” said Pinter.
Tre Goodhue, the library’s Adult Programming Specialist, is excited to welcome the art, music and other cultural values of Afghan culture to the community.
“Historically, our area has been a crossroads for a variety of communities. We want to continue that tradition with our Afghan neighbors by giving community members a place to learn about their rich culture and history. This event is part of that tradition and the role of the library in our community,” said Goodhue.
