Enzian Theater (Facebook | Website) will be hosting a 35th-anniversary screening of the cult classic martial arts film, “Miami Connection” on Friday, August 5.
The film, which was released in 1987, was directed by 9th-degree black belt/philosopher/inspirational speaker Grandmaster Y.K. Kim (founder of the Martial Arts World franchise), and is seen as one of the most entertaining martial arts films recorded in the United States ever since.
The film, which was shot in Orlando and has lots of recognizable local landmarks in it, centers on the misadventured piteous overthrows of multi-national martial arts rock band, Dragon Sound, who somehow end up fighting crime, with actual fists, not legal ones, and hitting back at Florida’s illicit drug trade. While Shakespeare it ain’t, the film was screened by chance in 2009 at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Austin, Texas, from which word quickly spread about how fun the movie was and enough support built to have it re-released.
Gawker called it, “So bad, it’s essential.”
Ticketholders will be eligible to win one of two copies of the out-of-print Dragon Sound seven-inch record featuring “Friends” and “Against The Ninja.”
