DOH-Marion hosting free breastfeeding resource fair – Ocala News

The Florida Department of Health in Marion County (DOH-Marion) is hosting a free resource fair this week to help local parents better understand the benefits and importance of breastfeeding.
The event is being held on Wednesday, August 3, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at DOH-Marion’s main office located at 1801 SE 32nd Avenue in Ocala.
The first week of August is World Breastfeeding Week, and the event will highlight programs and information that support breastfeeding and early child development.
DOH-Marion states that breastfeeding is an important component of child-rearing. The department highlights how breastfeeding provides babies with nutrition, boosts their immune system, and strengthens the bond between mother and child.
Breastfeeding can be a challenge for some families. Some of those challenges can be physical or psychological, but others can stem from a lack of community support or awareness of helpful resources. DOH-Marion’s breastfeeding resource fair seeks to supply answers to these situations.
Throughout the event, staff from several DOH-Marion programs will be on-hand to offer information and answer questions about breastfeeding. They include members of the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, Healthy Start, Health Education, and DOH-Marion’s dental clinic.
Representatives of the Early Learning Coalition of Marion County will also be in attendance.
The resource fair is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served, and door prizes will be given away.
