Flemington Pickleball Club, located at 19 Royal Road in Flemington, is hosting the third annual ‘Diva for a Day’ Charity Pickleball Tournament on Oct. 7 and 8.
The Diva for a Day Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in 2010 to uplift women undergoing treatment for cancer by providing a complete day of pampering at a salon or spa. It was founded by two New Jersey cancer survivors and friends, Peggy Matzen and Debbie Sestokas.
“We opened the pickleball club in October of 2020 and one of our members asked about hosting a charity tournament and we jumped in – the first ‘Diva’ tournament was held the month we opened, and it sold out,” said club manager Maria Capone. “This tournament is special because it represents the best of who we are at Flemington Pickleball Club – we support each other on and off the court, we give back to the community, and we are friendly competitors,” she added.
Tournament registration is available for women’s, men’s and mixed doubles teams ages 18 and older. The tournament is for pickleball players at levels 3.0 – 3.5 (intermediate) and costs $60 per participant. All proceeds will be donated to the Diva for a Day Foundation. The 2021 tournament raised $2000 for the foundation, which provided a full day of pampering for 15 women according to the foundation.
“A day of relaxing and pampering is such a wonderful gift for women dealing with cancer. Being a ‘Diva’ allows a woman to let go of their worries and relax, be cared for, and feel beautiful,” said Matzen. “It truly is a restorative day, and we are so grateful to Flemington Pickleball Club and the tournament participants for supporting our mission,” she added.
