Golf tournament hosted to honor veterans ahead of 9/11 – Wink News

On Saturday, the Copperleaf Charitable Foundation is hosting a golf tournament for veterans at the Copperleaf community in Estero.
The organization is hosting it this weekend because 9/11 is a trigger for many veterans and they want to do all they can to help raise money for programs to help vets.
Suicide among veterans has increased 20% since the onset of the pandemic, and in Lee and Collier counties, one in four adults suicides is a veteran.
Bill Starr, president of the Copperleaf Charitable Foundation, said the event is a gesture of gratitude for the sacrifices men and women have made for the United States.
“In addition to giving grants to them, through our fundraising, we also provide them an opportunity to have come and play golf on Copperleaf’s golf course. And so that works well with them because they have a wellness program where they try to get the vets involved with physical activities. So they have them come out,” Starr said. “It’s great for them. And it also is great for Copperleaf because we can show them how much we appreciate their service.”
Veterans from Home Base Florida will enjoy 18 holes with Copperleaf members. Home Base helps veterans transition from service to everyday life.
After the golf, they will be honored as they enjoy a complimentary lunch.
