This Friday night, the Panthers will be fighting for more than just a victory on the football field. In conjunction with Coach to Cure MD and the Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, Starr’s MIll’s September 23 game against Troup County will raise funds and awareness to tackle Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).
For the game, Starr’s Mill coaches will be wearing a special patch, and the players will each be wearing a sticker on their helmets. Fans are asked to wear red in support.
DMD is a fatal genetic progressive muscle wasting disorder that causes loss of muscle function and independence. To date, there is no cure for DMD.
Krishna Khushalani, a freshman at Starr’s Mill who has DMD, will serve as honorary captain for the game.
“I participate in clinical trials to help advance research, which also includes weekly IV infusions for over 5-plus years,” says Krishna. “I aspire to have a career in aviation and/or technology. I’m very grateful to be at SMHS where I’m encouraged to pursue my dreams.”
Krishna has a fundraising page set up, and you can donate at
