The New England Patriots are back at Gillette Stadium for Week 5 as they host the Detroit Lions on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Third-string quarterback Bailey Zappe is expected under center for the Patriots after injuries to starter Mac Jones (high ankle sprain) and veteran backup Brian Hoyer (concussion).
MassLive has live updates from Foxborough through the game (scroll to the bottom).

The Lions have the league’s top-ranked offense through first four games, but it has translated into only one victory. Detroit will look to take advantage of a Patriots team that could be looking at starting its third different quarterback in three games. Mac Jones is working his way back from an ankle injury and Brian Hoyer was placed on injured reserve after getting knocked out of last week’s game.
It would mean the first career start for rookie Bailey Zappe. Calling the plays for whoever is under center for New England will be Matt Patricia, who is back coaching with the Patriots after being fired by Detroit 11 games into his third season there in 2020.
DETROIT (1-3) at NEW ENGLAND (1-3)
Sunday, 1 p.m. EDT, FOX
LAST MEETING: Lions beat Patriots 26-10 on Sept. 23, 2018, in Detroit
LAST WEEK: Lions lost to Seahawks 48-45; Patriots lost to Green Bay 27-24 in OT.
LIONS PLAYER TO WATCH: DE Aidan Hutchinson, the No. 2 pick overall, had all three of his sacks in the first half in the Week 2 win over Washington. He is averaging three tackles per game and has been credited with six quarterback hurries. Detroit’s dismal defense needs him to become a difference-maker sooner than later.
PATRIOTS PLAYER TO WATCH: CB Jack Jones. The fourth-round pick made the most of extra playing time last week with Jalen Mills nursing a hamstring injury, hauling in a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown against the Packers. He also had a forced fumble and recovery. With Mills possibly returning to the outside this week, look for Jones to be utilized more in the slot.
KEY MATCHUP: Lions receivers vs. Patriots secondary. This will be the second top-five passing offense New England has faced this season. The other, the Dolphins, had 242 passing yards in the season opener. The Patriots also are coming off allowing a season-high 244 yards to Aaron Rodgers in last week’s loss.
KEY INJURIES: Detroit starting RB D’Andre Swift (shoulder, ankle), WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle), WR D.J. Chark (ankle), G Jonah Jackson (finger) and K Austin Seibert (right groin) were inactive last week and WR Quintez Cephus (foot), G Evan Brown (ankle) CB Amani Oruwariye (neck) were injured against Seattle. … Patriots QB Mac Jones continues to work his way back from an ankle injury, putting his status in jeopardy. Backup Brian Hoyer is out after being placed on injured reserve with a concussion. DL Lawrence Guy (shoulder), DL DaMarcus Mitchell (concussion) and tight end Jonnu Smith (ankle) also missed practice time this week.
