Wendell Foster will host its annual Special Needs Expo on Saturday at the Owensboro Convention Center. The expo allows community agencies to join forces in providing information about resources and services to assist families in supporting a loved one with a disability.
Nonprofit organizations, state agencies, and private businesses will discuss many services on-site. Those services include advocacy and support, assistive technology, autism services, behavior supports, day programs, durable medical equipment, early childhood, education, employment, future planning, health and rehab, recreation, residential services, and waivers.
Expo coordinator Cindy Huston said the event is just one of many ways they offer support to individuals with disabilities and their families in the community.
“Wendell Foster understands that navigating the world of disabilities can be challenging and sought to find a way to support families on their journey,” Huston said. “Through the Special Needs Expo, we offer a way for community organizations to join together in sharing their services.”
The event will also feature a pop-up art studio with various creation stations. The cast of Annie Jr. — the debut musical of the local Penguin Project, a theatre program for youth with disabilities — will also be present for a special performance.
The event will run from noon to 3 p.m. and is free to attend. Click here to view the complete list of sponsors and vendors.
“Wendell Foster has a rich history of supporting people with disabilities within the community,” said CEO Doug Hoyt. “The Special Needs Expo is another way we can touch the lives of many families within the region.”
