Johnston Senior Center hosts Halloween | News, Sports, Jobs – Warren Tribune Chronicle

PARTY TIME: The Johnston Senior Center, 5922 Warren Road, Cortland, will host a free community Halloween party 4 to 5 p.m. Monday, where volunteers will provide hot dogs and cider.
PASTOR ANNIVERSARY: Monument of Faith Church in Warren will celebrate the 33rd pastoral anniversary of Bishop David Herron Sr. and first lady Brenda Herron 4 p.m. today at the Community Family Outreach Center, 2165 Highland Ave., Warren. Guest speaker is Supt. Tyson Steals of Greater Mount Zion Church in Farrell. Pa. Musical guest is Trini Massie.
DONATIONS HELP CENTER: Donations for Heritage Accord, which is working to get the Newton Falls Community Center updated, will be accepted at Heritage Accord, P.O. Box 82, Newton Falls 44444 or any Huntington Bank branch.
LITERACY NIGHT: Liberty Local School District is hosting a Literacy Night with the theme “Reading Out of This World” at Blott Guy PK-6 School 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Guest speakers from the school and community will read stories to students and their families, and complete an activity to go along with each book. This year, the event also will showcase local vendors. Each child who attends will receive a free book to take home.
THANKSGIVING SIGNUPS: Thanksgiving signups are being taken by the Emmanuel Care Center in Girard. Orders of gift cards for Thanksgiving food will be taken through Nov. 11 at 330-545-4301 for any family who is registered at the center to receive assistance. Gift cards will be given to families instead of food. Families will be called when they can pick up cards. Donations of gift cards or money can be made through Nov. 11.
BOOK SALE: Hubbard Public Library is hosting an ongoing book sale 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. A donation box is by the books.
CARDS FOR VETERANS: The Girard Free Library encouraged patrons to decorate a card for a veteran between Tuesday and Nov. 9. The cards will be delivered to veterans’ organizations in Girard.
SIGNUPS: The Salvation Army, 270 Franklin St. SE, Warren, will host a Christmas applications signup makeup day 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday. Current photo identification for all adults in the home is required. Applications will only be taken for families with children age 14 and younger.
ART / ESSAY CONTEST: Heritage Accord, in partnership with the Newton Falls Public Library, is sponsoring a youth art and essay contest for children in kindergarten to 12th grade. The theme is ”My Hometown.” Two grand prizes will be awarded for the best essay and for the best art piece. Deadline for entries is Tuesday at the library. The selected pieces will be displayed Saturday at the center, which will be open to the public. Email [email protected] for more information.
UPTON HOUSE PROGRAM: The Harriet Taylor Upton House will host a free program 10 a.m. Wednesday with guest speaker Paula Jasper, who will tell the story of the survivors of Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire on March 25, 1911, where 148 people died and put the spotlight on working conditions for women. Coffee will be served starting at 9:30 a.m.
GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY: The Trumbull County Genealogical Society will meet 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Warren SCOPE Center, 375 N. Park Ave., Warren. There will be a program on the Yellow House with Cindee Mines of the Howland Historical Society. She will present a video of the house being moved this summer. The program is open to the public.
