UTC Women Host Mercer In White Out Game – The Chattanoogan

It’s time to FLIP THE SWITCH! The Chattanooga women’s basketball team will take on Mercer Saturday afternoon at The McKenzie Arena in a WHITE OUT game.

Fans are encouraged to wear their white in support of the Mocs in the WHITE OUT game. The first 200 fans will receive a rally towel.

The Mocs and Bears first met in 1983 in the season-opener with UTC winning in overtime. The Mocs were 9-1 against Mercer before they joined the SoCon in the 2014-15 season. The Bears lead the Mocs 9-7 in the SoCon regular season. Chattanooga is 9-3 against Mercer at home.

Against the Southern Conference, the Mocs are first in scoring defense (54.0) and rebounding defense (34.5) and second for 3-pointers made per game (6.0) and defensive rebounds (28.5).

Chattanooga is averaging 57.8 points per game and outscoring opponents by 4.1 points per game. On the boards, UTC averages 34.8 rebounds per game and outduels foes by 3.7 boards per game. The Mocs are shooting 40.4 percent from the field, 30.6 percent from long range and 75.6 percent from the free throw line.

Yazz Wazeerud-Din is second in the SoCon in scoring with 16.0 points per game followed by Raven Thompson with 13.5 points and Abbey Cornelius with 11.2 points per game. Wazeerud-Din is second for 3-pointers made and third for 3-point field goal percentage. Thompson and Cornelius lead the Mocs with 7.6 rebounds per game and are third in the league while Addie Grace Porter, seventh in overall rebounds in the SoCon, leads the conference in defensive rebounds with 6.5 per game.
Against the SoCon only, Mercer leads the league in six categories including scoring offense (70.0), scoring margin (15.3) and field goal percentage (.446). The Bears are shooting 79.7 percent from the free throw line and 36.3 percent from the 3-point line. Overall the Bears are averaging 63.3 points and 34.7 rebounds per game.

Amoria Neal-Tysor leads Mercer with 16.0 points per game and Erin Houpt, the only other Bear in double digits, averages 12.2 points per game. Summah Evans has a team-best 6.4 rebounds per game and Jaron Dougherty is third on the team in scoring with 9.0 points and second in rebounding with 5.9 per game.
